Ford - with consulting support from 3M - has developed a unique powered-air purifying respirator (PAPR) for use in reducing exposure to airborne particles. This PAPR is designed to provide constant filtered airflow to healthcare workers.

This product, when used as part of an approved respiratory protection system, helps protect against certain airborne contaminants. Before use, the wearer must read and understand the User Instructions provided as part of the product packaging. Follow all local regulations. In the US., a written respiratory protection program must be implemented meeting all the requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134, including training, fit testing, and medical evaluation. This is a Public Health Emergency (PHE) Particulate Filtering Respirator, which the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has approved as a Limited Public Health Emergency Powered Air- Purifying Respirator (PAPR).
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has likewise authorized the emergency use of this PAPR System only in healthcare settings by healthcare personnel when used in accordance with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations to help prevent wearer exposure to pathogenic biological airborne particulates during respirator shortages. The FDA Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) does not permit use of this product by the general public.
This PAPR System is intended to be used only during the declared public health emergency , and only by appropriately trained and supervised healthcare personnel who have read and understood the User Instructions. This respirator is not for use in industrial or other non-healthcare applications.
Refer to the User Instructions and/or the NIOSH approval label provided with the PAPR System for a listing of components that can be used to assemble a complete NIOSH approved respirator system or contact Technical Service at 1-833-804-3673. Do not use with parts or accessories other than those described in the User Instructions or on the NIOSH-approval label for this respirator.
Availability of additional PAPR Systems or replacement parts, including soft hoodtops, is not guaranteed.
This respirator may be used in a healthcare setting only during a public health emergency and under an FDA emergency use authorization. At the end of the current public health emergency, or in the event the FDA revokes the current emergency use authorization, this respirator should be removed from service immediately. This respirator may be stored in contemplation of future public health emergencies but may not be placed back into service without an applicable public health emergency declaration and emergency use authorization.
This respirator should be properly disposed of on or before the expiration date. Disposal of this respirator, including the battery, must follow the process specified by the PAPR manufacturer, Ford Motor Company, and the battery manufacturer.
